Froth and Froth II by Cyoko Tamai

$700.00

Cyoko Tamai creates "floating" paintings by working with the microscopic fibers of washi paper. Working exclusively with paper created by Sazio Hamada - a living national treasure who creates the world's thinnest handmade paper - Tamai carves and paints the fibers into soft, billowing three-dimensional works.

Meet the artist

The "Floating" painting consists of myriads of fine lines on Japanese washi paper, exploiting the unique character of its paper fiber. Tamai uses Sumi ink, steel dip pen with extra fine nib and washi paper for her work. The lines in the painting literally float up against the surface of the paper, and makes her work into a ‘semi-three dimensional’ piece.
