1616 / Arita is a contemporary brand of porcelain tableware that finds its roots in the 400-year old tradition of Arita-yaki. Designer Teruhiro Yanagihara developed this new series of ceramics using the traditional technique of clay made of crushed stone but with a different composition, which resulted in a high-density porcelain that makes the pottery extremely strong and heat and stain-resistant, even without glaze.
This series of versatile plates are based on the chrysanthemum motif, one of Japan's most important and symbolic flowers. The unglazed finish creates a graceful and sophisticated feel that is equally satisfying to touch as it is to eat off of. They're available in 3 sizes:
Small - 4.3 x 0.8 in (110 x 20 mm)
A mame-zara (or bean plate) perfect for condiments or small hors d'oeuvres.
Medium - 6.5 x 0.9 in (166 x 23 mm)
A desert plate suitable for a slice of cake or a side dish.
Large - 9 x 0.9 in (227 x 23.5 mm)
A dinner plate with a presence to compliment any main dish.
